Christmas Muzzle

It was the last workday before Christmas. As soon as the day was done, I quickly and excitedly shut down my computer and headed home.

I got on the elevator and was so excited that I wanted to wish everyone a “Merry Christmas,” not “Happy Holidays.”

Before I could say a word, I thought that my desire to greet everyone may turn out to offend some people. I was chest-fallen and felt muzzled – like wearing a Christmas muzzle.

Why should my excitement and wish to share some cheer be denied because someone might be offended?

Yes, it is politically correct, but is it right?

I thought back on growing up in Jamaica and how everyone wished everyone else Merry Christmas! It was such joy!

Now, I have to stop and think twice before saying “Merry Christmas!”

Yes, I understand that America is comprised of many races and religions and there must be mutual respect for each other. The Bible even teaches that if I know that by eating meat my brother will be offended, I should not eat it – even if I love meat.

However, is it fair for one group to feel muzzled so others may thrive?

In our public schools, the students may sing Christmas songs, but not carols. Our government offices cannot display a nativity scene. And, one governor calls the Christmas tree a holiday tree.

What madness is this?

Why a Christmas muzzle? Why can’t we just enjoy the season without feeling restrained?

President Obama openly honors Muslim holy days – watch him make declarations on these days – but the president is dumb when Christian holy days roll around.

Is it fair that one religion should get special treatment over another? Do we give the Muslims a pass and muzzle Christians?

Get rid of this Christmas muzzle! Let’s celebrate the season and bring cheer to all. I do not want to wish you “Happy Holidays!” – although I want you to have happy holidays.

Do you get it? I want to wish you a “Merry Christmas!” because that is what the season is.

If you do not celebrate Christmas, just ignore what I have to say. I must shake this Christmas muzzle!

Merry Christmas!
